Этот список не полон, в нем приведены наиболее известные школы.

 

Abe-ryu is oldest traditional Kendo school finded in 18th century. It was developed from traditional Kenjutsu school. Also there was Abe-ryu as Ninjutsu, which was developed from Iga-ryu unrelated.

 

Abe Tate-ryu was used as name for Abe-ryu Kendo,Tate-ryu also.

 

Aio-ryu Jujutsu/Kenjutsu school founded in 17th century. Also unique for techniques of the long yari.

 

Aisu Kage-ryu or Asiu Kage-no-ryu is Kenjutsu style founded in 15th/16th century by Aisu Tarozaemon Hisatada who later change name to Aisu Ikosai Hisatada. Its believed that Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu influenced the creating Aisu Kage-ryu. Later Ikosais student Kamiizumi Ise-no-kami Hidetsuna developed Shinkage Ryu.

 

Anazawa-ryu is Naginatajutsu school founded in 17th century.

 

Araki-ryu was found in 17th century by Araki Mujinsai Minamoto no Hidenawa. Practicing Araki-ryu Kogusoku you learn to use kusarigamajutsu, torite kogusoku, chigirikijutsu, tojutsu, bojutsu, naginatajutsu and ryofundojutsu. Some of arts that Ariki Hidetsuna learned were Yagyu Shinkage-ryu and Muso Jikiden-ryu. Later developed Araki Kempi-ryu.

 

Arima Shinto-ryu was Kenjutsu school founded by Arima Motonobu. Arima Shinto-ryu was developed from famous sword style Shinto-ryu. Arima Shinto-ryu is different martial art than Ninjutsu style Arima-ryu which was developed in Iga region. Also there is some theory that founder of Arima Shinto-ryu was Tsukahara Bokuden, but there is no evidence for that.

 

Asayama Ichiden-ryu is Taijutsu school, founded by Asayama Ichidensai Shigetatsu in 16th century. Asayama Ichiden-ryu is asociated with warrior families known as Jizamurai. Also Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu, Bojutsu and Kamajutsu.

 

Bokuden-ryu is Jujutsu style found in 16th century by Tsukahara Bokuden. Tsukahara Bokuden was a famous swordman (even instructor of Shogun Yoshiteru Ashikaga), Bokuden-ryu includes Kenjutsu techniques too. Tsukahara Bokuden trained Katori Shinto-ryu so it influenced Bokuden-ryu.

 

Toda-ha Buko-ryu Naginatajutsu was developed from Toda-ryu. In Toda-ha Buko-ryu includes Naginata, Tachi, Yari and Kusarigama, but most known Toda-ha Buko-ryu weapon is Kagitsuki Naginata (glaive mounted with a crossbar at the juncture of haft and blade).

 

Chujo-ryu was found in 15th century by Chujo Nagahide. Chujo-ryu is Kenjutsu style. Many fameous Kenjutsu styles were developed from Chujo-ryu, some of them are Itto-ryu, Toda-ryu, Muto-ryu, Hasegawa-ryu, Tomita-ryu...

 

Daito-ryu is most known Aikijujutsu style claimed to be founded by Shinra Saburo Minamoto Yoshimitsu in 11th century, however there is no evidence for this. Daito-ryu was teached in secret till the end of Edo period. In Meiji period Sokaku Takeda claims he made it open to the public however there is no evidence for it's existence before him.

 

Eishin-ryu was founded by Hasegawa Chikaranosuke Eishin.

 

Fukono-ryu is Jujutsu/Kenjutsu style, founded by Fukono Shichiroemon in 17th century. School developed from Kito-ryu.

 

Gan-ryu was founded in begining of 17th century by Sasaki Kojiro. School is known by using very long sword known as Nodachi.

 

Gassan-ryu is Naginata style from 19th century.

 

Gyokko-ryu is Koshijutsu style. School was brought from China to Japan by Cho Gyokko, but Sakagami Taro Kunishige organised the ryu and was headmaster from 1532 to 1555. In Gyokko-ryu includes Koshijutsu, Shitojutsu, Bojutsu and Kenjutsu.

 

Gyokushin-ryu was founded by Sasaki Goemon. He generaly developed Gyokushin-ryu from Gyokko-ryu. Also in Gyokushin-ryu includes Nagenawa (rope throwing).

 

Hakutsu-ryu is an traditionaly Jujutsu style.

 

Hasegawa Eishin-ryu is style of Iaijutsu or fast sword drawing. Later known as Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu.

 

Hasegawa-ryu Iaijutsu. Hasegawa-ryu was founded by Hasegawa Soki in 16th century.

 

Hasegawako-ryu is branch od Hasegawa-ryu. today its part of Hakko-ryu.

 

Hayashizaki-ryu Iaijutsu, today also known as Shimmei Muso-ryu.

 

Hideyoshi-ryu was founded in 16th/17th century. Its belived that when Hideyoshi invaded Korea on his way to invading China Hideyoshi-ryu influenced in some Kroean styles.

 

Higo Ko-ryu is Naginatajutsu style. Ryuha was founded by Kamei Terushige. Includes Naginata, Onaginata and Tachi.

 

Hikita Kage-ryu is Kenjutsu school, founded by Hikita Kagekane in 16th century. Hikita Kage-ryu is one of many schools developed from Kage-ryu.

 

Hikida-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Hikida Bungoro in 16th century.

 

Hioki-ryu Kyujutsu.

 

Hoen-ryu is school based on Kusari (chain) fighting. They use 1m - 1,5m long chain.

 

Hoki-ryu is Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu and Kyujutsu school. Style was founded by Hisayasu Katayama.

 

Hokusai-ryu is Jujutsu style founded in 18th century. Includes traditional medicine.

 

Hokushin-Itto ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Chiba Shusaku Shigemasa in begining of 19 century. Famous techniques Sword vs Naginata.

 

Honma Shinto-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Honma Masayoshi.

 

Hoshin-ryu Naginatajutsu. Style was developed in Kamakura period.

 

Hontai Takagi Yoshin-ryu Jujutsu (Yawara). Founded in 16th century by So Unryu.

 

Hontai Yoshin-ryu is Jujutsu style, founded by Takagi Setsuemon Shigtoshi in 17th century. Includes Kenjutsu and Bojutsu.

 

Hozan-ryu Kendo.

 

Hozo-in-ryu Jujutsu, Kenjutsu and Yarijutsu, founded by Buddhist monk Hozo-in Ei in 16th century.

 

Hozoin-ryu Takada-ha Sojutsu, founded by Hozoin Kakuzenbo In-ei in 16th century.

 

Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu is Kenjutsu style, founded by (Nitten no kami) Miyamoto Musashi Fujiwara Genshin in 17th century. Includes Kodachi, Odachi and Nitto (two sword).

 

Ichiden-ryu Kenjutsu, founded in begining of 19th century.

 

Ichien-ryu Kenjutsu. Shindo Munen Ryu developed from Ichien-ryu techniques.

 

Ichinomya Ko-ryu Iaijutsu.

 

Iga-ryu Ninjutsu.

 

Ikake-ryu Jittejutsu and Keibojutsu (police restraint) founded in 17th century.

 

Ippa-ryu Kenjutsu was founded by Morooka Ippasai Kagehisa. Ippa-ryu was developed from Shinto-ryu.

 

Isshin-ryu Kusarigamajutsu style, founded by Nen Ami Jion in 15th century. This Isshin-ryu is not Isshin-ryu Karate do. Includes kenjutsu and bojutsu.

 

Isshin Ko-ryu is Kusarigamajutsu style developed from Isshin-ryu.

 

Isogai-ryu Jujutsu, founded by Chinese monk Chen Yuan Bin in 17th century.

 

Itto-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Ittosai Kagehisa in 16th century. Itto-ryu had strong influence on Kendo and many other Kenjutsu ryuha.

 

Itto Shoden Muto-ryu Kenjutsu syle, founded by Yamaoka Tetsutaro Takayuki Tesshu, in the 19th century. Tesshu, developed from Itto Shoden Muto-ryu from Ono-ha Itto-ryu and Nakanishi-ha Itto-ryu. He recived Menkyo Kaiden for both schools.

 

Iwakura-ryu Suijutsu style. Combat while swiming in armour.

 

Jigen-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Togo Shigekura Bizen no Kami in 16th/17th century.

 

Jikiden-ryu kenjutsu/Iaijusu, founded by Onkeibo Chochen in 13th century.

 

Jikishin-Kage-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Yamada Heiazaemon in 16th century. Well known for its Naginata techniques.

 

Jikishin-ryu Jujutsu, founded by Terada Kanemon. There is theory that Seijun Inoue change name of Jikishin-ryu Jujutsu in Jikishin-ryu Judo in 18th century, before Jigoro Kano created Kodokan Judo.

 

Juki-ryu Jujutsu, founded in 17th century.

 

Jukishin-ryu Jujutsu, developed by Terada Kanemon. Also known as Jikishin ryu.

 

Jushin-ryu Iaijutsu, not to be confused with gendai Jushin-ryu Karate Do.

 

Kage-ryu Battojutsu, founded by Yamamoto Hisaya Masakatsu in 16th century.

 

Kanemaki-ryu is Kenjutsu style, founded by Jisai Michiie in the end of 16th century.

 

Kankai-ryu was Tosuijutsu style, developed for use in open sea. Style was found in 18th century.

 

Kan-ryu Sojutsu style, full name is Owari Kan-ryu. Founded by Tsuda Gonnojo Nobuyuki in 17th century. Also Kan-ryu or Owari Kan-ryu was one of moust important Sojutsu schools.

 

Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Matsumoto Bizen-no-Kami Naokatsu in 15th century.

 

Kashima Shinryu Kenjutsu , also Sojutsu, Battojutsu, Bojutsu, Naginatajutsu and Jujutsu. Founded in 15th century.

 

Kashima Shinto-ryu is Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu, Sojutsu, Naginatajutsu, Shurikenjutsu, Bojutsu, Jojutsu, Tantojutsu, Jujutsu, Heiyo, and others. Kashima Shinto-ryu style was founded by Tsukahara Bokuden in 16th century.

 

Katayama Hoki-ryu Iaijutsu, founded by Katayama Hoki-no-Kami Hisayasu in 16th century, includes Jujutsu.

 

Katori-ryu Hieyo, founded by Ienaoko in 14th century. Ienaoko first known as Katori-ryu, then Katori Shinto-ryu (Shinto - pure sword) then Tenshin Shoden Kator Shinto-ryu (Tenshin Shoden - divinely transmitted).

Kijin-ryu Kenjutsu.

 

Kijin Chosui-ryu Taijutsu founded by Izumo Kanja Yoshiteru.

 

Kito-ryu Kenjutsu, also Bojutsu, Iaijutsu, Jujutsu and Kusarigama, founded by Ibaragi Sensai in 17th century.

 

Kobori-ryu is Tosuijutsu style, founded by Muraoka Idayu Masafumi in 18th century. Its based on techniques of swiming and combat.

 

Koga-ryu Ninjutsu. It come from area with same name. Many ninjutsu ryuhas claim to be developed from Koga-ryu.

 

Kogen Itto-ryu Kenjutsu, also Naginatajutsu, founded by Henmi Tashiro Yoshitoshi in 18th century.

 

Kohgen Itto-ryu Kenjutsu with elements of Kendo and Iaido.

 

Kosho Shorei-ryu Kenjutsu and Jujutsu style founded in 13th century. Style was developed in Shaka-In temple.

 

Koto-ryu Koppojutsu. Techniques are brought to Japan from China and organised by Sakagami Taro Kunishige in 16th century.

 

Koto-Eiri-ryu Kenjutsu.

 

Koyama-ryu Kenjutsu. Koyama-ryu (Aizu).

 

Kukishin-ryu Jujutsu, Bojutsu, Hanbojutsu, Kenjutsu, Sojutsu, Naginatajutsu, Juttejutsu... Kukishin-ryu founded in the 12th century by Izumo Koshiro Terunobu.

 

Kuki Shinden-ryu Happo Hikenjutsu. It was founded by Izumo Kanja Yoshiteru in 14th century.

 

Kurama-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Ono Shokan in 16th century.

 

Kushin-ryu Jujutsu style, founded in 17th century by Inugami Nagakatsu.

 

Kyoshin Meichi-ryu Kenjutsu founded in 17th century. One of the most famous of this school was Sokaku Takeda.

 

Kyosui-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Minowa Kurando

Kyushin-ryu Yarijutsu, founded by Inugami Sakon Shogen Nagakatsu in 16th century.

 

Maniwa Nen-ryu Kenjutsu style, founded by Soma Shiro Yoshimoto in 14th century. Soma Shiro Yoshimoto was also known as Nen Ami Jion.

 

Masaki-ryu Manrikigusarijutsu, also Kusarigamajutsu, Juttejutsu and Shurikenjutsu. Masaki-ryu was founded by Dannoshin Toshimitsu Masaki in the end of 17th century.

 

Mijin-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Negishi Tokaku.

 

Miura-ryu jujutsu founded in 18th century.

 

Mizoguchi-ha Itto-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Mizoguchi Jingozaemon Masanori in 17th century. Includes O-dachi and kodachi.

 

Mizuno Shinto-ryu Iaijutsu, founded by Kobayashi Koemon Toshinari in 17th century.

 

Morishige-ryu Hojutsu (Firearms), founded in 17th century.

 

Mugai-ryu Iaijutsu founded by Tsuji Gattan Sakemochi in 17th century.

 

Mugen-ryu Iaijutsu.

 

Mukai-ryu Suijutsu. Style is based on combat while Samurai is swiming. Mukai-ryu was founded during the Tokugawa shogunate.

 

Muraku-ryu Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu style founded by Nagano Muraku Kinrosai.

 

Muji-Shin-Jen-ryu Kenjutsu,founded by Odagiri Sekiei. Odagiri Sekiei (a precursor to modern kendo)

 

Muso Jikiden Eishen-ryu Iaijutsu, founded by Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu in the end of 16th century.

 

Mujushinken-ryu Kenjutsu school which was known as Shimpo (mind) Kenjutsu.

 

Muso Shinden-ryu Iaijutsu, founded by Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu and Nakayama Hakudo (Hiromichi) in end of 16th century.

 

Muteki-ryu Kenjutsu and Jojutsu style, founded by monk Renshin Yamauchi.

 

Nagao-ryu Jujutsu, founded by Nagao Kenmotsu in 17th century.

 

Nakamura-ryu Iaijutsu, founded by Nakamura Taizaburo. Gendai Budo.

 

Nakanishi-ha Itto-ryu founded in 17th century

 

Negishi-ryu Shurikenjutsu style, founded by Negishi Shorei.

 

Nen-ryu bujutsu founded by Nen Yamato Jion. Kenjustu, Bojutsu, hammer and other weapons.

 

Nikaido-ryu Kenjutsu, founded in 17th century by Matsuyama Mondo.

Owari Kan-ryu Sojutsu, and its also known under name Kan-ryu. Style was founded by Tsuda Gonnojo Nobuyuki in 17th century.

 

Ryoishinto-ryu Jujutsu/Kenjutsu, founded by Fukono Shichiroemon in 17th century. Developed from Kito-ryu, also known as Fukono-ryu.

 

Sakuri-ha Kohgen Itto-ryu Kenjutsu.

 

Sekiguchi Shinshin-ryu Jujutsu, also Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu style founded by Sekiguchi Yarokuemon Ujimune in 17th century, also known as Sekiguchi ryu.

 

Seni-ryu Naginatajutsu.

 

Shibukawa-ryu Jujutsu founded by Shibukawa Bangoro.

 

Shigenobu-ryu Iaijutsu also known as Hayashizaki-ryu, Shimmei Muso-ryu, Shin Muso Hayashizaki-ryu. Style was found by Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu in 16th century.

 

Shinden Fudo-ryu Taijutsu, founded by Genpachiro Tameyoshi in 12th century (?).

 

Shinden-ryu Suijutsu style, based on techniques of long distances swimming.

 

Shindo Munen-ryu Iaijutsu. Not same as gendai Shindo Munen-ryu Kendo style.

 

Shindo Muso-ryu Kenjutsu and Jojutsu style founded by Muso Gonnosuke, based on Katori shinto ryu.

 

Shingen-ryu Kenjutsu founded in 16th century.

 

Shingyoto-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Iba Josuiken Hideaki in 17th century. Iaijutsu and Naginatajutsu.

 

Shinkage Ichen-ryu Kenjutsu.

 

Shinkage Itto-ryu Kenjutsu developed from Shinkage-ryu and Itto-ryu.

 

Shinkage-ryu Kenjutsu, Iaijutau, Jujutsu and Yarijutsu. Founded in 16th century by Kami Izumi Ise no Kami Fujiwara no Nobutsuna.

 

Shinkan-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Okuyama Tadenobu.

 

Shinkeito-ryu Kenjutsu style, founded by Matsuura Seizan in 18th century.

 

Shinmuso Hayashizaki-ryu Battojutsu founded by Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu in 16th century.

 

Shin-No-Shindo-ryu Jujutsu style developed in 16th century. Tenshin Shinyo-ryu was developed from Shin-No-Shindo-ryu.

 

Shin Riaku Heiho was founded by Setaro Tanaka.

 

Shin Sekiguchi-ryu Kenjutsu style, also iaijutsu and Jujutsu.

 

Shin Shin Sekiguchi-ryu Iaijutsu, also Kenjutsu and Jujutsu. Its different to Shin Sekiguchi-ryu.

 

Shin Tamiya-ryu Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu, founded by Tamiya Heibei Shigemasa.

 

Shinto Muso-ryu Jojutsu style founded by Muso Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi in 17th century. Shinto Muso-ryu is also Kenjutsu.

 

Shinto Yoshi-ryu Jujutsu founded by Shiro-Yoshitoki Akiyama.

 

Shirai-ryu Shurikenjutsu.

 

Shojitsu Kenri Kataichi-ryu Battojutsu founded by Imaeda Sachu Ryodai in 17th century. Shojitsu Kenri Kataichi-ryu is also Kenjutsu and Jojutsu.

 

Soken-ryu Kyudo.

 

Sosuishi-ryu Jujutsu founded by Fugatami Hannosuke Mansanori in 17th century.

 

Sosuishitsu-ryu Jujutsu style founded by Futagami Hannosuke in 17th century. Sosuishitsu-ryu includes iaijutsu.

 

Suifu-ryu Suijutsu style developed for swiming and combat

 

Suio-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Mima Yoichizaemon Kagenobu in 17th century. Suio-ryu is also Iaijutsu and Kenpo (as sword art), Naginatajutsu, Kogusokujutsu.

 

Taisha-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Marume Kurando in begining of 17th century.

 

Takagi Yoshin-ryu jujutsu founded in 17th century by Takagi Oriemon Shigenobu.

 

Takeda-ryu is Aikijujutsu, developed from Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu. Gendai Budo.

 

Takenouchi-ryu Jujutsu style, founded by Takenouchi Chunagon Daijo Hisamori in 16th century. Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, Tantojutsu, Bojutsu, Jojutsu, Naginatajutsu...

 

Tamita-ryu Kenjutsu.

 

Tamiya-ryu Iaijutsu founded by Tamiya Heibei Narimasa in 16th century.

 

Taneda-ryu Yarijutsu, founded by Taneda Jubei in 17th century.

 

Tatsumi-ryu heiho founded by Tatsumi Sankyo in 16th century. Its also Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu, Jujutsu, Bojutsu, Sojutsu...

 

Teishin-ryu Kenjutsu and Jujutsu founded by Terama Heiazaemon.

 

Tendo-ryu Naginatajutsu founded by Saito Hangan Denkibo Katsuhide in 16th century. Kenjutsu, Jojutsu and Kusarigamajutsu.

 

Tenjin-Shinyo-ryu Jujutsu, founded by Mataemo Minamoto no Masatari in 19th century.

 

Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu Heiyo is Kenjutsu style, founded by Ienaoko in 14th century. Ienaoko first named style Katori-ryu, than he changed name to Katory Shinto-ryu (Shinto - pure sword) and in the end he changed name into Tenshin Shoden Katory Shinto-ryu

 

Tenshin Sho-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Icchu Baichu.

 

Tenshinsho Jigen Ryu
Tento-ryu different (wrong) name for Tendo-ryu.

 

Toda-ha Buko-ryu Naginatajutsu , founded by Toda Seigen in 16th century. Bojutsu, Kenjutsu, Kusarigamajutsu and Sojutsu.

 

Toda-ryu is Kenjutsu. Diferent weapons made this line famous. Some of weapon that Toda-ryu includes are Suntetsujutsu, Bojutsu, Hanbojutsu, Kusarijutsu, Tenouchijutsu...

 

Toyama-ryu Battojutsu style, founded by Toyama Rikugun Gakko. No to be confused with the later Toyama ryu which is Gunto gendai.

 

Tsuda Kan-ryu same as Owari Kan-ryu or just Kan-ryu. School was founded by Tsuda Gonnojo Nobuyuki in 17th century.

 

Tsutsumi-ryu is Jujutsu.

 

Uchida-ryu Tanjojutsu founded by Uchida Ryohei in 19th century.

 

Yagyu Seigo-ryu Battojutsu, founded by Nagaoka Torei Fusashige in 17th century.

 

Yagyu-ryu Jujutsu.

 

Yagyu Shingan-ryu Taijutsu style founded by Araki Mataemon in 17th century. Bojutsu, Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu and Naginata jutsu style. Uses special long sword.

 

Yagyu Shinkage-ryu Kenjutsu, founded by Yagyu Sekishusai Munetoshi in 16th century.

 

Yakumaru Jigen-ryu Kenjutsu

 

Yamaga-ryu Kenjutsu and jujutsu founded by Yamaga Soko in 17th century.

 

Yamaguchi Itto-ryu Kenjutsu founded by Yamaguchi Hajime.

 

Yamato-ryu Kyujutsu founded by Morikawa Kozan in 17th century.

 

Yanagi-ryu Jujutsu style founded in 18th century. Its different to Gendai Yanagi-ryu.

 

Yo-ryu Hojutsu.

 

Yoshin-ryu Naginatajutsu, founded by Akiyama Shirobei Yoshitoki in 17th century. Bojutsu, Sojutsu and Kusarigamajutsu.

 

Yoshioka-ryu Iaijutsu founded by Yoshioka Kenpo Naotsuna.
